Sometimes I just forget about things I love and when I find them again, it makes me remember how great it was. I am sure most of you know about this website, but it is just so great, you gotta see it daily. It makes me smile each time, and reminds me of how I love to write and secretly wished I was one of their writers…oh to write witty blurbs about complete nonsense – now THAT is awesome!
So Tuesday was my 8th wedding anniversary and as much as we like to stay romantic, it is a wee difficult with a 2 year old. So we decided to be all family unit and crap and decided to all go to dinner at a semi nice place. We grabbed a big ‘c’ shaped booth which Finn was nice enough to stay in..mostly…We brought cars for him to play with, ordered him Chicken Nuggets which I felt I should have ordered as they were quite tasty and he seemed relatively happy albeit really hyper. As most parents can a-test to, when you have a kid your embarrassment tolerance goes way up. You are forced to change crap diapers in public coffee houses (right Groundswell ladies!), you breastfeed in front of teens popping in for their lunchtime caffeine (again, Groundswell is very tolerant of us moms). You deal with tantrums with a smile in the middle of Toys r us, and you are somehow able to pick your kids nose in public without batting an eyelash…gross I know, but sometimes it is either that, or stare at a green booger during lunch – you choose. So Finn was having a great time and then all of a sudden he jumps up onto the booth, tears come streaming down his face and he starts frantically yelling “FINN POOPY!”, “MY POOPY!”…over and over again. Apparently it was a bit painful coming out and he felt the need to get out his frustration and tell the restaurant, my god this poop was awesomely huge! I felt bad for the lovely family next to us having dinner with their teens, the lone dude at the bar who is probably here to avoid his own poopy diapers and the lovely old couple have a nice glass of vino before dinner…but truthfully we looked at each other and laughed. I grabbed Finn, some diapers and headed for the restroom with a big smile on my face and hoped that people felt it was
at least a little bit funny too. It was still funny when 30 minutes later it happened again… I have included a picture of Finn yelling at me on a walk this weekend as this was pretty much the depth of his sorrow over his poop…now I think we can all relate a little bit can’t we?
So when faced with a reno in my kitchen, new floors, new coat of paint, new light fixture..I really wanted to freshen my window treatments and I thought this was going to be the easy part…wrong…While I pained over choosing the right ‘white’ for my walls (yes I am that retarded), I thought curtains would be a snap and I would only need to look as far as ikea, west elm, perhaps crate and barrel or even anthropologie would have something…think again.
So far, every room in my house would have ikea curtains – love the grommet ones, but I wanted a change. Something bold, perhaps more chic and expensive and more graphic…I decided to place a cool vintage tea towel over my kitchen sink and then do long graphic prints over against the other wall. I thought the vintage tea towel would be really hard to search for – found it on day one…meanwhile 2 months later I am still humming and hahhing over where to find what I want without going custom. I have tried EVERYWHERE and am just not feeling the prints. Either too girly, too manly, too dark, too cheap looking, too…..ick…
Wouldn’t it be an amazing store to go in, choose your fabric, choose your top treatment, and choose your length and then they make them for you and you are out the door. Am I missing something – does this exist already? Shouldn’t Blinds to Go have a curtain option? So with a heavy heart I headed to ikea on the weekend, picked up a lovely cream velvet grommet curtain and called it a day…sigh…defeat…
So as many of you know, I like to reinvent myself, my brand, my website every 2 years basically as I see so much cool stuff out there and I just feel the need for speed…oh I mean, a change :) Hey…a little top gun reference never hurt anyone…
I wanted to start with a new logo that was more hand drawn but of course still incorporated a bird, more down to earth & organic and reflected a custom appeal which is what I offer my clients. I wanted to keep the fun animations but update them so that you don’t get bored coming to my site over and over again, which I am just sure you do :) The ideas I have behind the chick are simple. I want to show that the most simplest of forms can come alive using a bit of imagination…which I have plenty of!
So kick back, enjoy the site and check back soon as I get my client testimonials online…just so you can get all the dirt on what it is like working with me.
